USE OF LATHE CHUCKS

A lathe machine uses chucks to hold the object on which the operation is to be performed. This machine was an important part of the industrial revolution and chucks mounted on this machine are used to rotate the object on which the operation is to be performed, it can also be used to rotate the tool. Chucks contain the basic components jaws which clamp the object. Several chucks which employ magnetic and electric fields can also be used to hold the object with accuracy using these fields. There are many uses of chucks mounted on lathe machine as a lathe machine has many uses.

We can turn wood on a lathe machine by the use of chucks. By adjusting the wood piece between the jaws and adjusting the tailstock we can turn wood pieces. The surface of wood should be smooth so that proper turning can be done. We can also give different shapes to pieces of metals like making a bowl using a four-jaw chuck, making a flat plate. There are many applications of this machine using a chuck which depends on the user what he wants to create. We can also perform drilling operation by using chucks. The jaws clamp the object and a drill can be used to make a hole or drill that portion.

Whenever we need to hold our work-piece a chuck will always be used. Basically, chuck is the main part of the functioning of a lathe machine as without it the object cannot be held firmly. Often the people buy chucks according to the work done and deciding the best chuck becomes difficult sometimes. Other uses of a chuck include, rotary grinder in heavy duty grinding, in belt grinding, cylindrical grinding, surface grinding.  In general grinding operation can also be performed very efficiently by chucks. It can also be used in precision grinding, electric discharge machining, light-duty cutting and many more. In electric discharge machining, it can be used as a moulding machine and in light-duty cutting as a finishing. There are many other uses employing heavy machinery in industries and during manufacturing processes but the main uses have been discussed above.

As we know by now that a lathe machine has a variety of applications but without a chuck it is incomplete. Professionally as well as domestically chuck has proved to be of a great importance as without its usage it could have taken a lot more time and certain processes would have become impossible to be done. So, it has a very big advantage and it has proved to be a boon to industries.
